Athlete Focus- Samuel Wyatt-Haines

Updated: Apr 5, 2022

Next in our series of Athlete Focus blogs, we speak to Samuel Wyatt-Haines who has been coached by 4Performance for 6 months.

How long have you been participating in triathlon?

6 years in triathlon

What is your favourite discipline and why?

Cycling has always been my favourite. The tech side of it and the joy of riding around Dartmoor has made it the best.

What is your preferred distance?

70.3 and full distance

What made you decide to start having coaching with 4Performance?

I really wanted to make the next step with my triathlon career and I needed a third party to challenge me. The external challenge of setting sessions and also reviewing my data was the main drive for needing a quality coach.

What goals have you set yourself for this year?

Try to qualify for my pro license

How had your race/training performance stacked up against those goals?

Training has been going well and since November I’ve been banking 20+ hour weeks really consistently. I’m feeling in a good place.

Since starting with 4Performance what improvements have been made?

I’ve really developed in all three disciplines of triathlon. Swimming has seen some substantial developments with regular 4-5km swim sets being completed at less than a 1.20min/100m average. Cycling has been focused on sustained power and so although FTP may not have risen, I’ve been able to hold a much high power for 3/4hr rides for lower HR. Running has been a little plagued with niggles but I’ve still banked some good miles and was showing some good improvement in my aerobic ability.
