New Year, New Challenge

In this blog, Coach Kirsty talks about making plans for 2025 and trying something new...

It’s that time. The limbo between Christmas and New Year. The time when we start

to shake off the mince-pie stupor and start to think about what challenges next year

might hold.

What are your plans for 2025? Do you already have your list of favourite events in

the diary? Or are you keen to try something new? As multi-sport athletes, there are

so many options out there. It could be a new distance – maybe your first half-

Ironman? Or a new location – maybe a different country. It could be a spin-off event

focused on a single discipline, maybe a mountain marathon or a gravel sportive.

How about a different twist on multi-sport, maybe SUP-bike-run or adventure racing?

Or even a cross-triathlon?

There are all sorts of reasons why some events have us coming back year after

year. There’s a comfort in doing the tried and tested. We know the course; we can

benchmark our performance against previous attempts; we know the best cafes /

pubs for our post-event cake / beer where we can catch up with familiar faces.

But for me there’s nothing like the lure of something new, the thrill of a first. It’s

exhilarating, it’s daunting, it’s nerve-wracking, it’s empowering. So as I look ahead to

2025, I’ve got some familiar favourites in there, but I’ve also got my ‘something new’.

I’ve committed to doing my first Hyrox. I’ve got a few strategies to make sure I don’t

bail – not least of which is going ‘public’ on here! I’m also planning to make a

weekend of it, away with mates, at a cool location I haven’t visited before.

So when you’re planning the year ahead over the last of the mince pies, take a

moment to think about what excites you. Whatever you choose, remember – it’s not

about perfection, but about progress, adventure, and the fun of seeing just how far

you can go. Here’s to 2025!
